Late last year I was asked by Metropolis M to review the exhibition about Yayoi Kusama’s artistic activities in the Netherlands in the late 1960s, organised by Stedelijk Museum Schiedam. Admittedly, Kusama is not my favourite artist, but I found in this exhibition the possibility to meet Kusama the person rather than the persona. I also say something about how without the perspective afforded by hindsight, contemporary art continuously needs to fight for its status as such.
